East Islip Board Honors EIHS Academic and Musical Accomplishments

  • East Islip High School students’ academic and musical accomplishments were recognized at the East Islip School District Board of Education’s Nov. 13 meeting.

Senior Patrick Vasquez was lauded for double honors, being named both an AP Scholar with Distinction and a National Merit Scholarship Commended Student. AP Scholar with Distinction designation is granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. Vasquez is among approximately 34,000 Commended Students recognized nationwide for their exceptional academic achievement, whose high scores place them among the top 50,000 of over 1.5 million students who took the 2022 PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

Five East Islip High School student-musicians – trumpeter Ryan Flad, violinist Kevin Huang, violinist Richard LaSpina, tuba player Samuel Martinez and alto vocalist Lorelai Mucciolo – were also recognized for being accepted in the New York State School Music Association’s All-State program.
