East Islip High School’s Academic Team clinched a top spot at the 2023 Long Island Championship Regional Quiz Bowl, and ranked eighth overall on Long Island out of 44 Nassau and Suffolk County high schools.

The team of Liam Eichler, Lance Enriquez, Ryan Flad, Robert Hilbert, Frank Irace, Shazaib Khan, Abbey Lacy, Jesse Najera and Angel Rivas performed with great skill all season, placing second in their division, and earning the prestigious right to compete in the Long Island Championship, held April 19 at Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School. Senior Irace, East Islip’s high scorer and team captain, proudly led the team to its second appearance at the Long Island Championship, narrowly losing by only four points to the first-place team in the final round of playoffs.  

“These students have devoted hours to preparation and practice, becoming one of the best teams on Long Island,” adviser Lisa Rapiejko said. “Their dedication to the team and persistent effort have paid off. They represent the best and brightest of East Islip.”
