HS AP Science Students Explore Nature at Wertheim Refuge

  • East Islip High School students in Lauren Ferlin’s AP Environmental Science classes enjoyed a beautiful day on the water while visiting Wertheim National Wildlife Refuge in Shirley on May 18. During their trip, students took a guided hike along one of the many trails, where they observed wildlife. After the guided tour, the students went kayaking and canoeing down the Carmans River, where they explored the estuary environment.

“For many of the students, it was their first time in a kayak or canoe, and a very memorable experience,” Ferlin said.
