A two-hour kickoff event was held in the school’s cafeteria on Aug. 25, followed by a 10-week series of eight in-school group sessions. The program will conclude with a closing ceremony in which each participating student will receive a document certifying them as an Ambassador of Compassion, a designation which can be added to their resume and transcript for college applications. “We are excited and grateful for this unique opportunity that came to us here at East Islip, thanks to help from generous community members,” Director of Math and Science Michael Hansen said.
