SCPD Provides Practical Robotics Presentation at High School

  • The Suffolk County Police Emergency Service Section visited East Islip High School technology education classes on April 3. This unit consists of specially trained officers who engage in both high-risk and highly technical operations. They are trained in many fields; however, the focus of the presentation was on robotics and drones.

During the event, students learned about the different types of robots and drones that these officers interact with during their job. They shared an overview of how they work, discussed their overall designs and how they are manufactured and maintained, and even gave some students the opportunity to drive the robots.

“This was an excellent opportunity for my robotics students to see how robots and drones are used in practical applications,” technology teacher James Connell said. “I’m very thankful that the Suffolk County Police Department took the time to share their experiences with our students.”

“The officers were very nice, the robots were interesting and overall, I think this was a great learning experience to show students how robotics can be applied to real world situations and jobs,” junior William Blaschuk said.
