RCK and Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ Students Decorate Pumpkins for Food Pantry Drive

  • On Oct. 19, third graders at both Ruth C. Kinney and John F. Kennedy elementary schools took part in the first annual STEAM Pumpkin Creation Project for fall harvest. The students were able apply their STEAM skills to transform their pumpkins into an abundance of creations. Staff and students voted on their favorites by using loose change they brought in from home. Together the schools raised an astounding $1,331.57, which STEAM teachers, Jodie Macher and Carol Wilson used to shop for food and toiletries for the Mercy Haven Inc. food pantry in Islip Terrace to assist those in need during the harvest season.

“Congratulations to everyone who participated in this worthwhile event,” Wilson said. “It was a win-win for everyone involved.”
