East Islip HS Inducts 76 Into Art Honor Society

  • Seventy-six of East Islip High School’s talented artists were inducted into the school’s National Art Honor Society at a memorable ceremony, held on June 5 in the school’s gym. The candle ceremony was led by the society’s officers, consisting of Co-Presidents Kate Alexander and Bella Pepe, Vice President Sophie Jensen, Secretary Meeghan Mahon and Treasurer Elliott Crane.

“Being co-president with Kate and being able to lead while creating art was such a cool experience,” Pepe said. “Getting to be a part of that community and being surrounded by some of my favorite people really made the whole thing worth it. To the members of NAHS to come, good luck and make sure to stay involved. Always keep creating!”

“We are so proud of the newly inducted members of the National Art Honor Society,” NAHS co-adviser Heather Toomey said. “We truly love being the advisers to this wonderful group of young artists, and love to see how much art service they provide to our school, local community and the world. Each of them has unique talents and a passion for art that we share. We had wonderful leadership from our students and will miss all of our outgoing seniors.”

“It has been a pleasure being the co-adviser to this year’s chapter,” teacher Daniel Figliozzi said. “I always love the community we’ve created here and am really proud of all our members and what they’ve accomplished. I personally want to thank Mrs. Toomey for organizing a beautiful induction ceremony! Honestly, without her, none of this would be possible.”
