East Islip Elementary Musicians Shine at All-District Concert

  • After six weeks of intense rehearsals, East Islip’s elementary musicians showed off their skills at the annual All-District Concert, held on March 15 in the East Islip Middle School auditorium. The 109 students from John F. Kennedy Elementary School and Ruth C. Kinney Elementary School had the opportunity to work with a pair of teachers per group, reflective of a master class setting, and middle and high school students also assisted in mentoring the younger musicians.

The show began with the All-District Orchestra, conducted by Juliette Incandela and Giovanna Sciandra and featuring “French Folk Song,” “Pepperoni Pizza Rock” and “The Winds of Autumn.”

The All-District Band, conducted by Christopher Robertson and Concetta Stevens, were up next, performing “Ancient Spirits,” “First Light” and “Storm Chaser.”

“The music was fun and emotional, engaging our students and parents in a cascade of sounds,” Art and Music Director Dr. Rob Wottawa said.

“Our instrumental students have much to be proud of, and the teachers worked so hard in a short period of time and prepared an outstanding performance for our community.”

The last group to perform was the All-District Choir, conducted by Patricia Bryan and James Tucker. Their selections were “Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ward Bound," “I See the Light" and “Hero."

“Our choir teachers really shined with these selections and highlighted our students' strengths perfectly,” Dr. Wottawa said. “The performance was breathtaking and incorporated several soloists who captured the hearts of our community as they sang familiar melodies.”
