East Islip Boys Winter Track Ends Outstanding Season at States

  • On March 2, East Islip High School’s boys winter track team competed in the state championships at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island. 

    Firing on all cylinders, Matt McIntee ran an outstanding time of 34.92 in the finals of the 300-meter dash, breaking an old school record and finishing in fourth place in New York State. Meanwhile, Joseph Norrby ran in the 600-meter dash, while Julani Ellis competed in the long jump. 

    The boys 4x400-meter relay team had an impressive start in the semifinal round. In the trials, Jack Kalinowski, McIntee, Norrby and James Terhune ran a time of 3.24.92, breaking another school record. In the finals, Kalinowski, Aidan McConnell, McIntee and Norrby ran their hearts out, capturing fifth place in New York State and earning All-State honors. 

    “Congratulations to all on an outstanding season and to the boys who earned All-State honors,” Assistant Coach Nicole O’Connor said.
