East Islip High School’s varsity cheer team, coached by Ariel Abesamis, competed at the Universal Cheerleaders Association’s Empire Regional 2023 Cheerleading Competition on Dec. 16, placing fourth out of 16 teams in the traditional routine division and fourth out of nine in the game day division. As a result, East Islip received a bid to compete in both divisions at the UCA’s National High School Cheerleading Championship, to be held Feb. 10-12 at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.

East Islip’s cheerleaders will hold a Nationals Send Off Showcase on Feb. 7th at 6 p.m. The varsity squad will be showcasing its traditional and game day routines, and the junior varsity cheer team will showcase their routine for the last time this season.
