Senior Katelyn Nelson to Play Soccer for Russell Sage College

  • East Islip High School senior Katelyn Nelson recently signed a national letter of intent to play soccer this fall for Russell Sage College in Troy. She plans to major in physical education.

    A center midfielder and center defender, Nelson has been a varsity starter on East Islip’s soccer team for four years, and serves as team captain. Her many accolades include All-League, Coach’s Award and Booster Club White Letter Award in 2021, and All-State, All-County and MVP in 2022. She was an integral part of the 2021 county champion team and the 2022 league champions and county finalists.

    A two-sport athlete, Nelson also captains the East Islip softball team, where she has been a varsity starter for five years. She powered the team to undefeated league championships in 2021 and 2022, and a county championship in 2022.

    In academics, Nelson earned Scholar-Athlete and High Minds in Motion designation for both sports, received a 2022 scholarship from the Suffolk County Girls Soccer Association, was a Heisman Scholarship School winner for 2022-2023, and is a member of the school’s National Honor Society, World Language Honor Society and Leaders Club.
