East Islip Boys Wrestle Their Way Into County Semifinals

  • East Islip High School’s wrestling team has made it to the Suffolk County semifinals for the second consecutive year. The team opened up the playoffs with a 44-20 first-round win over No. 10 seed Smithtown West.

    In the quarterfinals, EI faced off against previously unbeaten No. 2 seed Patchogue-Medford, coming out on top in an exciting 33-28 victory. Rocco Destefano, Anthony Lietke-Merida, Gryffin Alfalfa, Anthony Avitabile, Vasilios Dimou, Christopher Coleman and Nick Groneman provided key wins for the team.

    East Islip’s wrestlers will next compete in the semifinals at Bay Shore High School on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 12 p.m. against third-seeded Connetquot High School.
